The next go to vitamins that I believe are imperative to keep you healthy are digestive supplements. The gut is the second brain and must be healthy in order to heal. Scientists call this little brain the enteric nervous system (ENS). And it’s not so little. The ENS is two thin layers of more than 100 million nerve cells lining your gastrointestinal tract from esophagus to rectum. “Its main role is controlling digestion, from swallowing to the release of enzymes that break down food to the control of blood flow that helps with nutrient absorption to elimination,” explains Jay Pasricha, M.D., director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Neurogastroenterology, whose research on the enteric nervous system has garnered international attention. “The enteric nervous system doesn’t seem capable of thought as we know it, but it communicates back and forth with our big brain—with profound results.” Knowing this information should make one more inclined to wanting to have better practices related to the gut!
Most people don’t realize that their enzymes or bile production is not up to par, which can cause severe health problems.
I have tried numerous digestive enzymes, but the one that I noticed the best digestion is V Zymes. Enzymes are already working hard in the stomach, but sometimes even when we believe our digestion is working correctly, it really is not. Without the correct amount of enzymes, it prevents food from being digested and it will ferment in the gut, causing a build up of “bad” bacteria and yeast while taking over all the “good” bacteria. When taking the correct digestive enzymes, you will also have better bowel movements. Vzymes is a comprehensive blend of acid resistant, plant-based enzymes specifically designed to support digestion and absorption of the nutrition from food.
Each capsule includes lipase, amylase, lactase, CereCalase® and protease to aid in the digestion of protein, fat, starches, fiber and other difficult to digest foods known to cause food sensitivities. CereCalase®, a special blend of hemicellulase, beta-glucanase and phytase, is specially formulated to digest the cell walls of plants, providing better nutrition from a plant-based diet. V Zymes also includes Gentian root, a traditional bitter herb, and artichoke, a natural choleretic, added to stimulate the body’s natural production of enzymes and bile.
I also suffer from histamine intolerance. To counter act that instead of cutting out all foods containing histamine, I take Hist Dao and Antronex at meals to capture the histamine from foods as well as other histamine responses. HistDAO™ is a patented enzyme formula containing diamine oxidase (DAO)—the main enzyme responsible for the degradation of ingested histamine. This enzyme has been clinically tested and found to break down food-derived histamine in the digestive tract. DAO is not absorbed and does not have systemic activity. HistDAO does not manage or address antibody-related or IgE-related food allergies. Antronex contains yakriton, a bovine liver fat extract discovered by Japanese researchers that is used to support the body’s normal detoxification mechanisms as well as the body’s natural immune system function.
The last supplement to complete my digestive journey is Ox bile. A Bile salt supplement should be taken with a meal so they can aid in the absorption and digestion of fats and fat-soluble vitamins. Bile Supplements may reduce cholesterol gallstones in the gallbladder, may help remove built up toxins in the liver, may clear out gut infections due to its antimicrobial activity and protect the body against harmful bacteria, may reduce bacterial overgrowth in the gut and prevent the bacteria and toxins from entering the bloodstream, may help with psoriasis because bile deficiency allows endotoxins to enter the blood and reach the skin, may improve liver function, and may help with gall bladder issues. Overall, a great supplement to make the body work better!
I used to not be able to tolerate a lot of different foods, but with the combination of HistDao, Antronex, Ox Bile and V Zymes, food has become enjoyable again! Tune in for more gut suggestions
